1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Basketball (QCF) (Sport Structures)

This is the basic level of coaching qualification, which gives outline knowledge of basketball, and enables the holder to introduce basketball and to assist a coach award holder (or above). The holder is not covered by the association’s insurance for working unsupervised and must work under the supervision of a minimum of a level 2 coach award holder.

Who is it for?

Individuals who usually attend this course are parents of performers, sports centre staff, teachers, youth workers, players or ex-players, interested adults, students etc.

Who supports the award?

The award is accredited by Basketball England.

What is the format of the course?

The course is usually delivered over 2 days.


This qualification is comprised of five mandatory units. All learners must complete these mandatory units in order to achieve the qualification.

What will be assessed?

Learners for this award shall be assessed by the course tutor taking a minimum of one 10 minutes coaching session with a group of players (6-10). The course tutor is responsible for continual assessment of the students for the duration of the course and for making the final decision regarding gaining the award.
