About Green Social Prescribing Project Officer

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS) has been successful in securing £500,000 as part of a national green social prescribing scheme aimed at improving the mental wellbeing of communities hardest hit by coronavirus. The focus of the programme is within Nottingham City, however the project will aim to grow into Nottinghamshire in the second year.

The project is being run by the Department of Health and Social Care, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Natural England, NHS England and NHS Improvement, Public Health England, Sport England, Ministry of Housing and the National Academy for Social Prescribing. It will test how to embed green social prescribing into communities in order to:

  • improve mental health outcomes
  • reduce health inequalities
  • reduce demand on the health and social care system
  • develop best practice in making green social activities more resilient and accessible.

This post will be employed by Nottingham Community and Voluntary Service (NCVS), a key delivery partner of the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Green Social Prescribing Programme. NCVS has been delivering services to Nottingham's community and voluntary sector since 1875. The sector will have a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the programme. The programme in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire will be known by the name GreenSpace.

Overview of Role:
The Project Officer will assist the Programme Manager in achieving programme outcomes through strengthening the resilience of the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS). This will be achieved through the development of green VCS organisations to enable them to develop their capacity to accept referrals from link workers and others (including self-referrals). The Project Officer will also be responsible for mapping green community assets, developing green volunteering pathways and assisting GP practices to achieve green accreditation.
