New resource aims to help carers support more disabled people to be active

A new interactive pack to help carers, support workers and personal assistants to support more disabled people to be active has been launched.

The 'Social Care Activity Pack', which can also be used by carers and family members who are supporting disabled people and people with long term health conditions, has been developed as part of the Get Yourself Active programme which is led by Disability Rights UK and funded by Sport England.

It aims to help people develop their knowledge of physical activity, have more conversations with the people they support about getting active and how to provide active support, as well as providing ideas to build exercise into everyday activities. The pack is targeted at supporting adults, but the information can be adapted to working with children.

The pack includes information on barriers, challenges and solutions; motivational interviewing; setting goals and planning; ways to be active and more; and also includes interactive worksheets to help people practically plan with those that they support.
